Community legal educationSCLC educates the community in legal issues through a variety of means including pamphlets & resource kits, articles in the media, free workshops and talks. WorkshopsOur solicitors can provide or facilitate workshops on most areas of law – for both community workers and general community members. Examples of Recent Community Legal Education Projects:“Mock Court” scenario at Bateman’s Bay Court involving an application for an Apprehended Violence Order. A “Magistrate’s Forum” held in conjunction with Ulladulla Domestic Violence Committee. A discussion about domestic violence and the legal process with community members and the local Magistrate Facilitated a workshop on Family Law for After-Hours Domestic Violence workers A workshop for grandparents who have care of children under Children’s Court orders Legal rights education sessions for high school students Hosted a community legal education session on fine enforcement presented by the State Debt Recovery Office. Divorce Information Sessions in conjunction with the Legal Aid Outreach, Nowra “You and the Law” Column in the South Coast Register. Topics have included Unfair Dismissal, Divorce, Debt, Wills & Power of Attorney An information brochure for youth advocates at police interviews.
